| The summer of 2001 may long be remembered
at Parkland College as the summer of construction and
remodeling. City streets in the Parkland area are closed for
major improvements; Parkland parking lots and sidewalks are
undergoing repairs; the new Social Sciences wing is well on its way to
being habitable; and the other long-existing wings of
the College are undergoing remodeling and recarpeting.

Parkland Library is part of the scheme to link the second floors
of the College wings for a more efficient flow of foot traffic and
easier access to the other wings. To that end, remodeling to connect the
A-wing and the C-wing on the second floor has begun at the
north side of the Library's main floor.
As a result of this construction, several of the Library's collections -
current newspapers, Best Sellers, recreational paperbacks - have
been relocated to the new lounge area south of the Circulation Desk.

The projects are ongoing, and noise and dust will still be part of
the Library's environment for the foreseeable future. While
the main entrance to the Library remains open, the
accessible entrances to the Library from the X-wing and the A-wing
have been closed. Paul Sarantokos, Director of Public Safety,
tells us "Anyone needing an accessible route into the
Library should contact Public Safety at 351-2369 and an officer will
meet you to open the south X-wing elevator."

The Circulation Desk area will undergo a modification this
summer. Also planned is a recarpeting project on the main
floor. As these
changes and improvements are happening, the Library staff will do
their best to ensure that disruption of service to our patrons is minimal.
Please let us know how we can assist you during these
transitions. Just like everyone else who is on campus this summer, we're looking
forward to the "new and improved" look of Parkland
College!
