Comment: Why don't you have the text books for
my classes?
Response: A number of factors enter into our general
decision not to purchase textbooks on a routine basis. Funds are
always limited, of course, and in order to spend our money responsibly, we
have to give some thought to how long a title may remain useful.
Hundreds of courses are taught each year.
If we were to buy one copy of each text needed for each course, we would
find ourselves with very little left to support purchase of the kinds and
variety of books students need for their assignments.
Too, the purchase, each semester, of one copy of
each textbook required in a course would meet the needs of only one user -
the person lucky enough to get to the Library first. The rest of the
class would still have to purchase texts of their own. We would be
spending the bulk of our budget to meet the needs of very few of our
users.
Still, it should be noted that we do buy some
textbooks for the collection, and often these, or instructors' own copies
of the books, are placed on Reserve, at the Circulation Desk, and in that
way are available to all.

Comment: This was my first time in Parkland's
library. The librarian was very nice, very helpful and also patient.
Response: We want and need to hear from our patrons, no
matter what they have to say, good or bad. We are especially
delighted to hear that you had a positive experience on your first
visit. Thank you for taking the time to tell us. Hopefully
your future visits to the Library will be as satisfying.
