Ray Bial.  Does the name sound familiar?  It just might, as Ray is an accomplished author of several books.  Born in Danville, Illinois, Ray took an adventurous route away from the area, living in Great Falls, Montana, and Tacoma, Washington, and then eventually returning to Danville as a result of his father being in the Air Force.

Ray completed his Bachelor’s degree at the University of Illinois in 1970, later to return for his Master’s degree in Library Science in 1979.  While attending graduate school, Ray met his wife Linda, who was also pursuing a Master’s degree in Library Science.  Shortly after their marriage in 1979, Ray accepted a position in the Library at Parkland College.  During those "in-between" years in the '70s, Ray held a variety of positions:  teacher, counselor, and administrator of an alternative high school in Baltimore.

Ray’s current responsibility is that of Reference Librarian, and as such, he assists students with research for papers, speeches, and other class assignments.  Of his position Ray says, “Many students come into the library with more than a little apprehension about libraries and research, especially with computers.  I like to show students how easy and enjoyable it is to undertake research, especially with new technologies.”

Ray Bial

Away from Parkland, Ray enjoys reading, gardening, and travel.  He is also an avid photographer and writer, publishing a number of award-winning books for children and adults.  He has been listed in "Something About the Author" and "Contemporary Authors."  More information is available at his website:  www.raybial.comRay and his wife, Linda, are parents of three children:  Anna (age 21), Sarah (age 14), and Luke (age 9).  Ray has said “…to be a good husband and father has been my highest calling.”
