The start of the new Fall Semester finds Parkland Library regrouping
after a summer of bustle related to the construction of the College's
wing-connection project. The new accessible entrance at the
north side of the Library that provides access to the X, C, and A
wings is not yet open to normal traffic, although Library
patrons with disabilities will be permitted through. We
anticipate that the entrance will be fully functional in the very near
future. At this point in time the
Library elevator, which usually has restricted access, is open for people needing to get into the Library from the
first floor of the College. Another major change in the Library this summer is the relocation
of Audiovisual Services and the Archives Office. Audiovisual
Services is now located next to the Circulation Desk. We believe that locating these two service areas
next to each other will improve efficiency and be more convenient for
our Library patrons. The Archives Office now occupies a portion
of R212, formerly Audiovisual Services.

The Library staff began preparing for Audiovisual Services to move many months ago.
The first step was withdrawing out-dated, no-longer-used AV
material. After the AV collection was pared down and we were
able to see how much space was needed, measuring for a floor plan in
the new location was done. Decisions were made on where the AV
collection and equipment could be placed to optimize the space.
The Circulation Desk area underwent some modifications to make way for
the switch. Once we had the go-ahead that the new wing construction was
nearly completed, the move began. Several days of moving and
relocating shelving, AV material, furniture, computers, etc., for the
two offices ensued. The Library staff gives a
big "thank you" to the Parkland custodial and maintenance
crew for their assistance in managing to get this relocation completed before classes began.
Our long-range plan for remodeling the Library to better serve our
patrons and to enhance use of technology will continue over the next few years. So,
watch for more changes to come!
