Dijon, France is located at the crossroads of Europe. It is a lively, progressive,
university city of approximately 250,000 residents. Capitol of gastronomy
and gateway to the prestigious vineyards of Burgundy, Dijon is exceptionally
rich
in history and art. Heir to the splendors of the glorious court of the Dukes
of Burgundy, Dijon boasts numerous monuments, museums, and architectural
jewels including churches, cathedrals, and private residences dating
from the Middle

The University of Burgundy's International Center for French Studies was
founded in 1902 and each year welcomes students from all over the world.
Students receive 16-20 hours per week of instruction from native speakers
who specialize
in the communicative teaching of French as a foreign language. The program
is rounded out by cultural activities including cooking, singing and drama
groups, cinema, concerts, and frequent guided tours in the Dijon and Burgundy
region.
A special formal evening reception at the Dijon city hall is a particularly
memorable event for students. At least one Illinois faculty member will be
present
as a fully engaged contact person throughout the session.
In addition to daylong excursions in the city of Dijon and the Burgundy
region, program costs include a full-day arrival tour of Paris as well as
a two-
to three-day tour to Provence in the south of France.
Students will live in single rooms at the International Student Residence
Hall on campus and within walking distance from the Maison de l'Universite
where classes are held. Each room is equipped with a sink, a small refrigerator,
and a telephone. Toilets, showers, TV rooms, kitchen, and laundry facilities
are located on each floor. Breakfasts and dinners are included in the program
and may be taken on site or at any of the several campus cafeterias.
Costs vary slightly every year; therefore, costs for the current semester
should be obtained from the director of Study Abroad. Most types of aid available
to Parkland students may be used for a semester abroad, and, in addition,
there are a limited number of Parkland Foundation Scholarships.
Study abroad students save several hundred dollars in Parkland Tuition
costs, as the college charges students for just one credit hour of tuition
and fees,
no matter how many courses they enroll in abroad.
This four-week session is generally scheduled for the entire month of July. For
specific departure and return dates for the current year's program, please
contact the Study Abroad Office.
In order for students to study abroad, they must have completed 12 credit
hours of college-level work; have a 2.75 grade point average; and have completed
English 101 by the time of travel.
The deadline for applications is March 15th. However, since space is limited,
it's advisable to apply early.
