Without air conditioning during hot weather or heating systems in cold climates, life can be unbearable, even endangered. Heating and cooling systems are vital in controlling the temperature, humidity, and air quality in homes, businesses, factories, and other buildings. Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) technicians install, maintain, and repair these systems for both residences and commercial establishments.

As an HVAC technician, you will diagnose and correct problems throughout the entire HVAC system, which may involve thermostats, motors, fans, compressors, ducts, switches, and other mechanical, electrical, and electronic components. You will also maintain HVAC systems, adjusting system controls to their recommended settings and testing system performance using special tools and equipment. You will be equipped to conserve, recover, and recycle chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) and hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC) refrigerants during air conditioning servicing, to help protect the earth’s ozone layer.
