The Draftsperson

If drawing and design, mathematics, and computers are your interests, consider a challenging career in structural and civil drafting or mechanical design drafting.

Using computer-aided design (CAD) systems, you will prepare detailed drawings of structural components in buildings and in civil construction, or diagrams of machinery and mechanical devices. Based on the rough sketches and specifications of architects and engineers, your drawings may include three-dimensional views as well as specifications on materials and construction procedures.

Your accurate, neat, and detailed work will enable other workers to build or manufacture the project properly. CAD systems will make it easier to prepare many variations of a design and allow them to be viewed from angles not usually available with traditional drafting methods.
