What is Dual Admission?
Parkland College and DePaul's School of Computer Science, Telecommunications and Information Systems (CTI) DePaul’s School of Computer Science, Telecommunications and Information Systems (CTI) have created a partnership to simultaneously admit students to the associate’s (A.A.S.) and bachelor’s (B.S.) degree programs. You’ll attend Parkland for the first part of your college career while gaining access to additional resources through DePaul. When you are ready to transfer, you’ll complete your bachelor’s degree through one of CTI’s 14 bachelor’s degree programs. Dual admission status allows students to make a smooth transition to DePaul CTI when the time comes.
How Does Dual Admission Benefit You?
- Degree requirements will be established according to the quarter that you are admitted to the dual admission program rather than the year that you transfer to DePaul CTI. This locks in your graduation requirements and makes transferring easier.
- Academic advisors at both institutions will help you select courses that count toward your bachelor's degree.
- Each year, you'll receive a degree progress report to help you see what requirements remain for you to earn your bachelor's degree.
- You'll receive a DePaul ID, e-mail account and login that will allow you to access DePaul student resources available through the university's Campus Connect portal.
- You'll receive access to "MyCTI", a portal service available only to enrolled CTI students.
- You'll have access to DePaul libraries and CTI's general and specialized computer labs.
- You'll receive newsletters and e-mail announcements about CTI extracurricular, scholarship and alumni activities.
- You'll be invited to the same extracurricular and support activities available to all CTI students.
How does Dual Admission work?
- Apply for admission to both schools indicating that you are seeking dual admission (see the Three Steps in Applying for Dual Admission below).
- Once admitted to both, return DePaul's Statement of Intent to register as a dual admission student before the beginning of the quarter.

- Attend an orientation session at DePaul where you will receive an ID, be introduced to web services, and meet your DePaul faculty advisor.
- Submit a transcript of earned Parkland College courses to DePaul each year while in attendance at Parkland College.
- Stay in touch with your DePaul CTI advisor throughout your time at Parkland College through monthly newsletters and MyCTI, the CTI web portal. Use Campus Connect, the DePaul web portal, to keep us informed about changes of address, phone number, or email, and to access our university newsletter, Town Square.

- Dual admission students will receive invitations to student activities at DePaul and are encouraged to attend when they can.

Three Steps in Applying For Dual Admission
- Step 1: Apply to DePaul University; you may apply online at www.depaul.edu/onlineapps. Indicate on the application that you are applying as a dual admission student when you choose a major in CTI. Be sure to include Parkland College in the "colleges attended" section.
- Step 2: Apply for admission to Parkland College.
- Step 3: If you are admitted to DePaul, you'll receive a Statement of Intent form. Return it to DePaul along with a copy of your admission letter or class schedule at Parkland College. Then, attend an orientation session at DePaul.
More Questions and Answers about Dual Admission
- Does dual admission cost any money? Yes, you will have to pay the application fee at DePaul and if you are admitted, you will have to pay the orientation fee.
- Can I change my mind and attend a different four-year school? Yes, you can withdraw from the dual admission program at any time with no penalties. Just let your DePaul CTI advisor know and we will withdraw you from the program.
- When and where are the dual admission orientations? Orientations are on the DePaul campus. If you are starting dual admission in the Fall, there will be several orientation sessions throughout the summer. If you enter during another term, there is usually one orientation before the beginning of each quarter. All students must attend orientation to receive the DePaul ID, meet with an advisor, and to set-up a login for DePaul's virtual advising environments.
- Can I take classes at both colleges at the same time? We haven’t set this program up to achieve that goal, but contact your CTI advisor and discuss what you are thinking about. If it is advisable, it may be approved.
- Can I attend part time as a dual admission student? Yes.
- What if I stop attending school, will my dual admission remain indefinitely? You must be continually enrolled at either Parkland College or DePaul University while in the dual admission program. If you do not register for classes during an academic year period between Fall and Spring, you will be withdrawn from the dual admission program.
- Are there special academic rules that apply to dual admission students? No. Dual admission students are subject to the same rules as other DePaul students and to the academic policies of Parkland College. To read through the academic policies that affect DePaul students, check out the Undergraduate Academic Policies of the Undergraduate Student Handbook in the DePaul Undergraduate Course Catalog. Parkland College addresses Academic Standards and Academic Honesty in their Student Policies and Procedures Manual.
- Can I apply for dual admission right out of high school? Yes. You will be admitted to DePaul based on your high school grades and standardized test scores.
- Can I apply for dual admission after I have attended the Parkland College for a while? Yes. If you have completed more than 30 semester or 44 quarter credit hours, your admission will be based on the success of your college–level grade point average.
- Can I move to DePaul CTI at any time after I am admitted or do I have to wait until I complete a specific number of credits or until I complete the associate’s degree? You can move over to DePaul CTI at any point after you are admitted, if you have stayed continuously enrolled. You cannot move back and forth. Once you have enrolled in DePaul, you move out of the dual admission program.
- How does Financial Aid work for dual admission? Financial Aid is only applicable to the school in which you are enrolled. Dual admission students will be enrolled at Parkland College so the financial aid will be figured based on that cost. If you transfer to DePaul during that school year, your financial aid won’t get adjusted unless you plan for it ahead of time. Usually, we recommend that you start DePaul in the Fall quarter so that DePaul costs are figured into the FAFSA analysis.
- If I am dismissed from Parkland College for academics or disciplinary reasons, what happens to my dual admission status? In the event of dismissal due to academic or disciplinary reasons, you will be withdrawn from the dual admission program.
- Can dual admission students reapply for admission after they are withdrawn from the program? Yes, students who withdraw because they step out of school or because of academic or disciplinary problems may reapply. However, graduation requirements will be changed to those in effect at the time of readmission.
- Can I enter a different school or college at DePaul or do I have to major in a CTI major? The only dual admission agreements are with majors at the School of CTI in DePaul. Other schools at DePaul are working to establish dual admission agreements. If you want to change your major to one that is in another school or college at DePaul, you will need to contact your CTI advisor who will assist you with that process. It will involve applying for an inter-college transfer once you decide to enter DePaul.
Orientation for Dual Admission Students
Dual admission students will attend the DePaul orientation session titled "Transition DePaul." At the orientation, dual admission students will receive:

- An advising meeting with a faculty advisor/mentor
Dates for Dual Admission Orientation will be sent to admitted students, who will need to register for an orientation session. Dual admission students must return the Statement of Intent that is included in the admission letter to confirm their intention of proceeding with dual admission status at both institutions.
