Professional faculty counselors are available to help students
deal with personal issues and make referrals to outside agencies when appropriate. Career
development counseling is provided to assist students in the selection of
career and educational goals.

Online is a comprehensive directory of human
and social services in Champaign County, a project of First Call for Help
at Family Service.
The U.S. Dept. of Labor provides an
Occupational Outlook Handbook with detailed information on occupations to help you make
informed career choices.
Twenty-four hour emergency assistance is available by phone for anyone in the Champaign-Urbana community at The Mental Health Center of Champaign. The CRISIS LINE is 217/359-4141. The Mental Health Center is located at 205 West Park Avenue.

LEAP (Linking Education and People) is a drop-in self-help support group for current Parkland students who are living with mental health issues that may impact success in college. Some of these issues might be anxiety, depresssion, grief, relationship problems, substance abuse, etc. Contact

Your rights as a client
You have the right to refuse, question or terminate counseling at any time. All
information that you share with your counselor is confidential and will not
be released to anyone without your written consent, with the following exceptions:
• Notification to relevant others when there is an immediate danger
to self or others
• Notification to relevant authorities in cases of suspected child abuse,
elder abuse or abuse of a vulnerable adult
• In legal cases, the records may be released subject to a valid subpoena
What
to expect from personal counseling services
Individual counseling sessions are typically 50 minutes and by appointment
only. The information shared will not become a part of your educational
records. Counseling is solution focused and short term in nature. Counselors
will, if appropriate, refer individuals to public and/or private community
agencies and resources for more intensive counseling or other special services.
What the counseling staff expects from students
To provide accurate and complete information.To be on time for appointments
and to notify the Counseling & Advising Center if you must cancel your appointments. If
you are more than 15 minutes late for appointments, it is very likely that
you will have to reschedule.
