Computer Lab
This computer lab with study area is designed for students in developmental courses: CCS 098 and 099, ENG 098 and 099, MAT 094, 095, 097, 098, and 099. Our two Academic Development Specialists and one Technical Specialist can help you with assignments and solve problems related to computer usage, Angel, Parkland Connection, student email, and more.

The lab serves Parkland students enrolled in courses numbered 099 and below, and certain high school graduates making the transition to college. To reserve the lab for a class, please email or call Joe Bails at 217/353-2023.

- Microsoft Office 2007 applications, including Word, Excel, Power Point, and Access
- Adobe Acrobat Reader
- Quick Time & Windows Media Player
- ModuMath. Struggling with math? ModuMath's video and narration will guide you through basic math and algebra concepts, with interactivity that builds your confidence and comprehension. ModuMath Basic Math and ModuMath Algebra lessons explain the problem-solving process one step at a time using real-life applications of mathematical concepts.
- Dragon Naturally Speaking 8, a speech recognition tool, reproduces text in WordPerfect, MS Word, Excel, and Internet Explorer.
- Inspiration uses visual learning to develop ideas and organize thinking; strengthens critical thinking, comprehension, and writing across the curriculum.
- Lexia Reading S.O.S. helps students develop basic reading skills and works up to advanced decoding and comprehension.
- Kurzweil 3000 is the reading, writing, and learning software solution for any struggling reader, including individuals with learning difficulties such as dyslexia, attention deficit disorder, or those who are English Language Learners.
- Zoom Text magnifies the display of word processors, spreadsheets, databases, and online services on the computer screen.
- Word Workout teaches a quick but reliable technique for dividing long words into syllables. At the same time, students learn a routine for building up a smooth, accurate, and immediately recognizable pronunciation.
- WordQ, a tool used along with standard word processing software, suggests words for you to use and provides spoken feedback. It also helps you proofread.
- SpeakQ is a simple plug-in voice input program used with WordQ. It helps users, particularly ones with learning disabilities, who cannot use other speech recognition products because of reading demands and complexity.
Academic Development Specialists
Our academic development specialists, Sue Jones and Evelyn Brown, provide academic support to students who have experienced learning difficulties or who have documented learning disabilities. They assesses students' preferred learning styles, teach study methods, and organize academic skill-building workshops.
