Medical Billing & Coding

Everyone from insurance companies to medical researchers uses medical coding, making medical coders crucial to the financial operation of every hospital and doctor's office in the country. More than 42 percent of experienced codes make between $30,000 and $40,000, although pay can go as high as $100,000 according to a national health information management survey.

Instructor: Nancy Freese is a certified professional coder with 25 years of experience in billing, coding and reimbursement. She is a member of the American Academy of Professional Coders and is also a national speaker.

 

FALL 2008

 

Comprehensive CPT Coding

Nancy Freese will guide you through the process of learning the principles of CPT coding and assigning the correct code to procedures performed in a physician’s office and hospitals. Students are required to complete weekly homework assignments.
Prerequisite: Medical Insurance Billing and Coding (HCS 700) or two years of medical coding experience.

SPRING 2009

Advanced CPT Coding

Experienced coders will concentrate on complex cases and coding from reports.  The coding concepts learned will apply to any specialty of coding. Students MUST successfully complete HCS 701 or have two years of medical billing/coding experience before enrolling in HCS 703.

Medical Insurance Billing & Introduction to Coding

Uncover the entire cycle of medical services reimbursement from registration of the patient, encounter forms, coding of services, preparing claims to submission to insurance company and follow up for appropriate payment.  Learn the entire process of effective coding and reimbursement.

Medical Coding Certification Exam Preparation

Review and prepare for a medical coding certification.  This course is designed to provide experienced coders with a concise and focused review of CPT and ICD9 coding and learning how to take an exam. This course is for the experienced coder desiring certification.
