The geography information systems
(GIS) technician


This fascinating and useful career combines engineering, geography, computers, and environmental science. The GIS technician enjoys the variety of working with computer technology, both in the lab and outdoors. Some GIS technicians provide information about the environment for purposes such as developing and preserving resources or determining sources of pollution. Others work for agricultural purposes, such as yield and soil mapping. Still others work with governmental agencies, using GIS programs for city planning and other purposes.
