Overtime win keeps M-WAC title hopes alive

Corey Kallembach's goal early in overtime, on a setup pass from Alex Birnie, helped the #7 Parkland Men's Soccer team to a 2-1 overtime win over Heartland on Tuesday afternoon. Playing in a steady rain, the Cobras scored just six minutes into the match on a header by Kallembach off a corner from Bruno Ferreira to give PC the early lead. The Cobras controlled the contest only to see the Hawks Nick Jefferson tie the game with less than a minute remaining in the contest. Kallembach provided the game winner just five minutes into overtime as PC won their fourth straight. Tyler Kutz was again strong in goal allowing just one score in 95 minutes of play.

The win moves Parkland to (13-1-2 5-1), while Heartland which had won three straight, falls to (6-9 3-4). The victory sets up a showdown for the championship of the Midwest Athletic Conference on Saturday when PC travels to Lewis & Clark (12-4 5-0) for a 3:00 match. The winner will wrap up the M-WAC title and a likely #1 seed in the Region 24 tournament with just one regional game remaining for each team.

Balanced attack leads Golf team to Jaguar Invitational title, Davan earns Medalist honors

The Parkland Men's Golf team used a balanced attack on Sunday to rally from a four shot deficit and win the Jaguar Invitational in convincing fashion. The Cobras started round 2 play four strokes off the lead but shot an impressive 287 and pulled away from the field for a 17 shot win over Illinois Central.

Sophomore Michael Davan won individual honors for the second straight year carding a 145 (72-73). Davan birdied the final hole to edge Shawnee's Anthony Dempsey, Parkland's Bob Huey, and Kaskaskia's Michael Wright by just one stroke. Huey was especially impressive on Sunday firing the low round of the day shooting 70. Teammate Trevor Wiesner 147 (75-72) placed fifth, just two strokes behind the winner. Kevin Mast rallied from a tough opening round with a 72 to finish with a two day total of 153 (81-72) and David Shelton added a 154 (78-76) to round out the scoring for the Cobras.

Parkland entered a second team in the 10 team event and the Parkland Gold finished in 8th place. Sam Wells and Drew Miner both came in at 161 while Corbin Sebens finished at 162. Wells and Siebens both shot 78 on Sunday while Michael Peters carded a 79.

Parkland will play in their final event of the fall when they travel to the Vincennes Invitational this Friday and Saturday.

VB knocks off Lincoln host L&C tonight, Women's Soccer earns first national ranking

The #11 PC Volleyball team struggled at times but knocked off Lincoln College in four games winning 25-16, 25-23, 23-25, and 25-5 in M-WAC play. The Cobras featured a balanced attack with several players getting into the action. Kylie Cavanah had 53 assists as Jess Redden and Jaclyn Meado each had 13 kills. Meado also had two blocks while Sam Larson added 19 digs and Brittany Fallis had 18. Jess Wood rounded out the Cobra attack with 3 service aces. PC (20-7 4-0) hosts Lewis and Clark at 6:00 tonight.

The #15 ranked Parkland Women's Soccer team, coming off a win and a tie against previously ranked teams, find themselves ranked for the first time in school history. The Cobras (8-2-2 4-1) take the weekend off before traveling to Kaskaskia on Monday afternoon. With the Women being ranked, it means that all three Cobra fall sports teams (Volleyball #11, Men' Soccer #15, Women's Soccer #15) are all listed in the NJCAA top 20. Volleyball is a perennial top 20 team but both Soccer teams are ranked for the first time since the sports were added at Parkland in 1999.

Parkland 3rd at Illinois State Golf Finale, Women's Soccer battles to tie, Men ready for showdown

The Parkland Men's Golf team battled back from a tough first day to finish third at the Illinois State Region 4-24 Challenge. The Cobras were in 6th place after day one of the 19-team event but carded the lowest round (302) on Monday to finish in 3rd. Sophomore Michael Davan shot a (147 75-72) to finish in fourth place over-all just two-strokes behind medalist Adam Butler (Logan). Freshman David Shelton also played well for PC carding a two-round total of (77-74 151). Next up for the Cobras is the Danville Area Invite on Oct 4-5 at the Turtle Run Golf Course.

Brittany Gentry scored on an assist from Tara Rossdeutcher with just under eight minutes remaining in the game to help the Parkland Women's Soccer team tie the College of Dupage 1-1 on Monday afternoon. The two teams battled in an evenly played game and were scoreless at the half. COD scored midway thru the 2nd half before the Cobras rallied. PC had 10 shots on goal while the Chaparrals took 8. The tie leaves Parkland at (8-2-2) on the year while COD is now (10-2-2). Parkland is off until Monday October 6th when they travel to Kaskaskia.

The Men's Soccer team will travel to Lincoln Land for a M-WAC/Region 24 Showdown. PC enters the battle of two ranked teams with a record of (11-1-2) while the Loggers are (11-1). The winner of the game stays in contention for the M-WAC title and top seed in the Region while the loser is eliminated from finishing in the top spot.

And finally, the Parkland Baseball team will play their final home scrimmage of the fall when they host Danville Area CC at 3:00 today.

Women's Soccer stops #14 ICC, Men top Triton, Volleyball falls to #1 Kishwaukee in four

The Parkland Women's Soccer team rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit with two second half goals to stun #14 Illinois Central 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. Tara Rossdeutcher scored on an assist from Nicki Butler with less than 10 minutes remaining to give the Cobras the win. PC had tied the match earlier in the half on a goal by Sophia Ryan on a pass from Angie Snider. Libby Beck was strong in goal for the Cobras with 5 saves. The win moves the Cobras to (8-2-1 4-1) while ICC falls to (7-3-1). Next up for PC will be a home game at 4:00 on Monday afternoon with NJCAA D-III #7 College of Dupage (10-2-1).

The Parkland Men got back to their winning ways with a 1-0 non-conference victory over Triton College of River Grove. TJ Keys scored the only goal of the contest as Tyler Kutz again had a shutout. PC (11-1-2) is off until Tuesday when they travel to Lincoln Land for a key M-WAC contest. The Loggers (11-1), Cobras, and Lewis and Clark are currently in a three-way tie for first place.

PC's Volleyball team came up on the losing end of two hard fought battles on Saturday afternoon to finish 3rd in their own Invitational. The Cobras fell to #1 Kishwaukee 15-25, 25-18, 25-20, and 25-11 after falling to #14 DMACC 25-20, 18-25, 25-23, 23-25, and 15-7 earlier in the day.. Kishwaukee beat DMACC in three games to win the title. PC (18-7) travels to Lincoln on Wednesday night for an M-WAC game.

Women rally in final minute, Men lose first match

Sophia Ryan scored with just 42 seconds remaining in the game to give the Cobras a 2-1 win over Springfield College on Thursday afternoon. The Urbana graduate gathered a loose ball that was deflected off the Bulldog goalie to put home the game winner. Ryan also contributed to the Cobras first goal as she assisted Brittany Gentry on a goal in the first half to tie the game. SCI had taken an early 1-0 lead on a breakaway goal by Kelsey Lucas. The win moves PC to (7-2-1) and they will host #14 Illinois Central (7-1-2) at noon on Saturday.

The Parkland Men saw their twelve game unbeaten string come to end Thursday night as they fell to ICC 1-0. Paul Zinnah's rebound goal at the 65th minute of the match was the lone goal of the contest. The Cougars, who have struggled to a (5-6) record this year but have been to the NJCAA National tournament the past two seasons, out shot the Cobras and recorded the first shutout against them this season. PC (10-1-2) will get back to work on Saturday when they travel to Triton (6-2) for a non-conference match.

Women's soccer posts another win

Once again the trio of Tara Rossdeutcher, Sophia Ryan, and Linda Hernandez led the way as the Parkland Women's Soccer team cruised to a 5-0 win over Kaskaskia on Wednesday afternoon. Brittany Gentry opened the scoring on an assist from Ryan and Hernandez made it 2-0 at half on a pass from Rossdeutcher.

Tara found the back of the net early in the second half with an assist from Carly Cherry while Ryan and Hernandez both scored unassisted goals for the final margin of victory. Molly Sandgren and Sandy Stundahl combined in goal for the shutout as the Cobras out shot the opposition 18 to 1.

Parkland (6-2-1) will play their third game in as many days this afternoon when they host Springfield College at 4:00. PC beat the Bulldogs 3-1 earlier this season.

Soccer team remains in rankings, Volleyball moves up ahead of hosting strong tournament field

The Parkland Men's Soccer team went 2-0-1 over the last week but feel from #11 to #14 in the latest NJCAA Poll released today. The Cobras (10-0-2) moved up three spots to #8 in the National Soccer Coaches Association Poll (NSCAA/Adidas). PC has two tough road contests this week, traveling to ICC on Thursday and to Triton on Saturday.

The Volleyball team moved up one spot to #7 after the Cobras went (2-2) in Florida last week. The Cobras (17-5) are set to host an impressive field in this weekend's Parkland Invitational. Including Parkland, seven of the nine teams entered are ranked in the top 25 of the most recent NJCAA D-II Poll. The field includes:

#17 Owens (24-7)
#18 Kirkwood (16-8)
#24 Kalamazoo Valley (12-5)

Parkland Soccer teams pick up high scoring wins

Both of the Parkland Soccer team's picked up high scoring victories over struggling opponents on Tuesday afternoon. The #14 ranked Men's team routed Kankakee 11-1 while the women shutdown Lincoln College 6-0.

Parkland's TJ Keys had a hat trick scoring 3 goals, Luis Tavares added two goals and an assist, and Aaron Vega scored once and added two assists of his own to lead a balanced attack. Michael Arocha, Matt Larison, Corey Kallembach, Lance Strawn, and Trevor Kohlrus all scored single goals as eight different players put the ball in the net for the Cobras. PC led 4-0 at the break and scored two early second half goals to take a 6-0 lead before the Cavaliers (1-8) scored their lone goal of the contest. The schedule will get a little tougher as PC travels to rival Illinois Central College for a 7:00 match on Thursday night.

For the women, Sophia Ryan scored twice and added an assist while Tara Rossdeutcher, Brittany Gentry, and Linda Hernandez each scored once and had an assist as the Cobras cruised to the win. PC led 2-0 at half before scoring four times in the second half. Skye Peters added the final goal for Parkland who out shot the Lynx 22-2.

Parkland (5-2-1) will play their second of three games in three days when they host Kaskaskia at 4:00 today. Lincoln falls to (0-8-1) with the loss.

Golf wins Robert Morris Invite, VB 5th at Florida Tourney, Soccer battles to tie

The Parkland Men's Golf team used balanced scoring to edge Illinois Central College by one stroke and take home the title of the Robert Morris Invitational over the weekend. Despite ICC having the top two scorers, PC used two round totals of 150 by Kevin Mast and Michael Davan as well as Trevor Wiesner (151), David Shelton (152), and Jordan Christensen (155) to hang on for the win. PC led ICC by 9 strokes going to the final 18 but ICC shot a team best 294 to put the heat on the Cobras. The team is off until Sept. 28-29 when they play in the Illinois State Championships held at ISU.

On a wet and miserable day heavyweights #11 Parkland College and Schoolcraft
(Livonia, MI) played to a 1-1 tie. The game featured a 30 minute rain
delay, a sloppy soaked field, 8 cards, hard tackles all over the pitch, and
brilliant saves by both keepers. Schoolcraft opened the scoring on a wild
scramble that started with Parkland keeper Tyler Kutz getting injured and 20
seconds later ending with a penalty kick for Schoolcraft's Bim Ogunyemi
after being taken down inside the box. Just minutes later the game was
delayed for lightning. When action resumed former Centennial star Corey
Kallembach dug a loose ball out of a puddle in front of the net and knocked it home
to tie the score. The game went back and forth the rest of the way with both
teams getting chances before settling on the even result. Parkland played
the last 23 minutes down a man after having a player sent off with his second
yellow card.

The tie puts #11 ranked Cobras record at 9-0-2 (Conf. 3-0). PC hosts
Kankakee at 4:00 on Tuesday. Schoolcraft is now 7-1-3 on the year.

And finally, the #8 PC Volleyball team swept Manatee CC in three games to finish 5th at the Conquistador Invite in New Port Richey, Florida. Pc won 25-19, 25-21, 25-18 behind Lucy Coleman's 13 kills. Earlier in the day the Cobras lost a heartbreaker to Clearwater Christian, falling by the scores of 22-25, 25-22, 25-16, 23-25, and 6-15. Coleman had 5 blocks in the match while Brittany Fallis recorded 30 digs. PC (17-5) split two matches on Friday as well. Losing to D-1 #10 Miami Dade 25-16, 21-25, 25-22, and 25-15 before beating Indian River 25-15 in all three games. PC will be off until this Friday and Saturday when they host an impressive field in the Parkland Invite which includes #1 Kishwaukee and several other ranked foes.

The Women's Soccer team fell to (4-2-1 3-1) after a hard fought 3-1 loss to undefeated Lewis & Clark (10-0 4-0)
Kaylee Neutzling scored the first of her two goals and Kelly Musenfechter followed up with one of her own to give the Trailblazers an early 2-0 lead. Linda Hernandez scored later in the half to cut the deficit to one at the half. Neutzling scored the only goal of the second half holding PC scoreless to hang on for the win.

The Cobras will play 4 matches next week starting with a game at Lincoln on Tuesday. PC will host matches Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday, all against Region 24 foes.

Men's Soccer teams earns first ever national ranking

The (9-0-1) Men's Soccer team has earned their first ever National ranking, coming in at #11 in the latest NJCAA poll released today. The Cobras are currently the only team ranked from the state of Illinois. PC hosts Schoolcraft at 11 am on Saturday. Congratulations to Coach Sikora and the entire team!

Volleyball holds steady

The Cobra Volleyball team holds steady at #8 in the NJCAA D-II Volleyball Poll. PC is currently (14-3) over-all and is 8-3 against teams listed in the current poll. Their three losses come against teams presently ranked #4, 7, and 17. PC plays D-I #10 Miami-Dade this weekend and has a potential match up against #19 College of Southern Maryland at the Pasco-Hernando Invite in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Tuesday sweep for Cobra sports teams

Three Parkland Athletic teams were in action on Tuesday and all came away victorious. The #8 ranked PC Volleyball team traveled to Springfield and knocked off #15 Lincoln Land in three games by the scores of 25-13, 25-13, and 25-20. The victory moved the Cobras to (14-3 2-0) while Lincoln Land falls to (15-5 1-1). PC now travels to Florida where they will compete in the highly competitive Pasco-Hernando Invitational. First up for the Cobras is NJCAA D-1 powerhouse Miami Dade, as well as matches against Indian River CC, and Clearwater Christian.

The Men's Soccer team had a tough time of it against a surprisingly stubborn Danville Area Community College squad edging the Jaguars 1-0. DACC came out with a defensive mind set, frequently packing nine players in their defensive end. Despite double digit shots on goal and corner kicks, three defender saves off the line and a shot ringing the crossbar, Parkland wasn't able to score until the 84th minute when Centennial grad Corey Kallembach scored off a nice feed from Central High School grad Ricardo Vega. Tyler Kutz had one save for Parkland in recording the shut out. The victory improves the Cobras to (9-0-1 3-0) while DACC falls to (3-4 1-2). PC will host perennial Michigan powerhouse Schoolcraft College (6-1-2) at 11 am on Saturday.

The PC Women's Soccer team ran their winning streak to three games with an impressive 3-2 win over rival Heartland CC in Bloomington Tuesday afternoon. The trio of Brittany Gentry, Linda Hernandez, and Sophia Ryan hooked up to score all three of the Cobras goals. Gentry put PC ahead 1-0 on a feed from Hernandez. After HCC tied the contest on an unassisted goal by Jessie Bonds, Gentry put the Cobras ahead for good on an assist from Ryan. Hernandez put PC ahead 3-1 at the break on another assist from Ryan.

Neither team was able to score in the second half until Jill Hedrick scored on a direct kick for HCC in the final minute of the game. The win improves PC to (4-1-1 3-0) while Heartland drops to (6-4 2-2). PC hosts #10 Lewis and Clark (9-0 2-0) at 4:00 on Thursday. The Trailblazers have outscored their opponents 54-3 so far this season ahead of their game today versus Lincoln.

Golf team 3rd at highly competitive John A Logan Invite

Led by a top ten finish by sophomore Michael Davan (72-77 149), the Parkland Men's Golf team finished 3rd at the 16 team John A Logan Invitational. Division I power Indian Hills won the team title led by medalist Steve McGlynn (71-71 143). Mississippi Gulf Coast edged PC by two strokes for 2nd place while the Cobras finished two strokes ahead of Region 24 rival Rend Lake for 3rd. The Cobras will head north this weekend to participate in the Robert Morris Invitational in Wadsworth, Il.

Cobra Volleyball get 2 more victories

The Parkland College Volleyball Team swept through both teams in their tri-match Friday evening in impressive fashion. In the opener, the Cobras defeated Region 24 foe Rend Lake Community College 25-8, 25-5, 25-8. Parkland used a combination of great serving and net play to overwhelm the Warriors. Sophomore Setter Kylie Cavanah tied a Parkland record with 12 aces in the match. Jess Wood, Lucy Coleman, and Katie Knott led the balanced offensive attack with 7 kills apiece and Molly Elderbrook added 12 digs.

In the second match of the evening, Parkland was equally impressive as they dispatched the Cyclones from Moraine Valley Community College by scores of 25-15, 25-16, 25-13. In that match Jeni Sykes and Kylie Cavanah combined for 22 assists. Jess Wood continued her hot hitting with 6 kills and Alyssa Elmore added 5. Brittany Fallis led the defense with 14 digs.

Parkland's record improves to 13-3 on the season. The Cobras start this week off with a very big MWAC conference showdown against Lincoln Land CC Tuesday at 6PM in Springfield. The girls then travel Wednesday to Florida to play in the NJCAA Division I tournament in New Port Richey, FL at Pasco-Hernando CC. The Cobras will open the tournament with DI # 1 ranked Miami-Dade CC.

Men's Soccer upends #11 SWIC, Women canceled at ICC

PARKLAND BEATS #11 Southwestern Illinois College

Undefeated Parkland played host to nationally ranked SWIC in an exciting
contest Saturday afternoon with Parkland pulling out the 2-1 win. The first score of the game
didn't come until the second half when fleet footed forward Aaron Vega of
Parkland beat his man in the box and was taken down from behind. Devon
Munch calmy converted the penalty kick. Just seven minutes later SWIC
captain Alex Agne scored to knot the match. Then with just twenty minutes
left TJ Keys neatly put home a pass from Leroy Kusina for the Parkland win.
Parkland played the the last 15 minutes of the game shorthanded as Munch was
sent off with his second yellow. Tyler Kutz again anchored the goal for the
Cobras.

PC outshot the Blue Storm 10-6 in the contest while SWIC had 5 corner kicks to the Cobras 1.The victory raises the Cobras record to (8-0-1 2-0) ahead of a conference match with Danville Area CC on Sept. 16 at 4:00 at Parkland.

The Women's Soccer team's game against Illinois Central College scheduled for 6:00 in East Peoria was canceled due to poor field conditions and will not be made up.

Women's Soccer and Volleyball pick up conference victories

Both the Parkland Women's Soccer and Volleyball teams came away victorious on Wednesday in Mid-West Athletic Conference games. The Soccer team defeated Springfield College 3-1 to improve to (3-1-1 2-0) on the season. Brittany Gentry and Tiffany Blanchette put the Cobras ahead 2-0 at the break as Tara Rossdeutcher and Sophia Ryan each had assists. After SCI's Kylie Henson cut the lead to one, Rossdeutcher added an unassisted goal of her own to seal the final margin of victory. PC out shot the Bulldogs 10-6 in picking up their second win in a row. Things will get much tougher for the Cobras this weekend as they travel to East Peoria on Saturday for a contest with #9 Illinois Central (5-0-1 3-0). The Cougars have outscored their opponents 19-2 and allowed goals in only one match this season.

PC's Volleyball team opened the home portion of their season with a convincing win over John Wood 25-8. 25-12, and 25-13. In a match that lasted less than an hour, PC broke on top early in each game and kept the Trail Blazers from gaining any momentum. Sam Larson (9 kills) and Jess Wood (7 kills) helped pace the attack with Brittany Fallis adding 7 digs, Alyssa Elmore 3 blocks, and Kylie Cavanah had 29 assists.

The #8 ranked Cobra (11-3 1-0) are set to host a triangular this Friday afternoon and evening. PC will play Rend Lake at 4:00, Rend Lake plays Moraine Valley at 6, and the Cobras will play Moraine at 8 pm. As always admission is free to all Parkland students, faculty, and staff with a valid Parkland ID.

Men's soccer keeps streak alive

Parkland Men's Soccer team kept their unbeaten streak alive on Tuesday with a convincing 5-0 win over Springfield College. The victory moved the Cobras to (7-0-1 2-0) on the season while the Bulldogs fall to
(2-5 0-4).

The win was a totally dominating performance as the PC defense did not allow a single shot by the SCI attack.
Trevor Kohlrus scored the only goal of the opening half as the Cobras took a 1-0 lead into the break. PC broke the game open however scoring 3 goals in a span of seven minutes early in the second half. Leroy Kusina scored on an assist from Lance Strawn at the 62nd minute mark and Kusina scored again just one minute later on a feed from Matt Larison. Larison scored a goal of his with Strawn once again picking up the assist. PC scored their final goal of the contest as Strawn picked up his third assist of the game when Alex Drawve knocked home a goal.

PC will try to keep their streak alive when they travel to Region 24 foe Rend Lake CC on Thursday afternoon.

Soccer stays undefeated,earns much needed break

Playing their fifth game in less than a week, the Parkland Men's Soccer team again looked sharp as they pounded the Greenville College JV 7-0 in soccer action Wednesday afternoon. The Cobras received goals from seven different players and four of the goals came on assists.

Kyle Stach got the scoring going on a goal just three minutes into the contest on a pass from Leroy Kusina. Alex Drawve put PC ahead 2-0 with an assist to Il Sa Moon to wrap up first half scoring. Moon scored a goal of his own with an assist to Stach at the 51st minute mark and the rout was on. Dustin Curtis scored to make it 4-0 and then PC scored three goals in three minutes. TJ Keys scored on another assist from Kusina at the 75th minute, Aaron Vega scored just two minutes later and cousin Ricardo Vega followed up with a goal of his own less than a minute later.

Goalkeeper Tyler Kutz and defenders Devon Munch and Trevor Kohlrus allowed Greenville no room to score as Kutz recorded the Cobras fourth shutout of the season. For the year PC has out scored their opponents 32-4 in building a (6-0-1 1-0) record. The Cobras earn a much needed break as they are off until Tuesday September 9th when they host M-WAC foe Springfield College (2-3 0-1).

Parkland Soccer keeps streak alive

Freshman TJ Keys scored three goals, two in a span of 52 seconds, to help lead the Parkland Men's Soccer team to a 4-0 win over the Illinois Wesleyan JV. The victory improved the Cobras to (5-0-1) ahead of a 4:00 game today versus the Greenville College JV. Keys, a freshman from Rochester, put PC ahead at the 24 minute mark on and assist from Eduardo Galvez, and added his second goal less than a minute later when he chased down a deflection off the back of an IWU defender and got by the goalie for a 2-0 lead. The game stayed at 2-0 until Bruno Ferreira put a kick in the corner of the net at the 50 minute mark and Keys scored the final goal of the contest with an assist to Aaron Vega with just two minutes remaining in the game. Tyler Kutz and the Parkland backline recorded their fourth shutout in seven game for the Cobras.

Volleyball wins Owens Invitational, Women's Soccer falls to SWIC

The #5 ranked Parkland Volleyball team continued their impressive early season play going a perfect 5-0 on the way to winning the Owens CC Invite. The Cobras picked up two more wins against nationally-ranked opponents beating #8 Kalamazoo Valley 32-34, 25-18, 25-21, and 27-25 and #13 Owens 25-20, 25-22, 19-25, and 25-18. PC has now played six team ranked in the NJCAA D-II poll and has compiled a 5-1 record against those teams.

At the tourney PC swept three other opponents, all in three games. The Cobras beat Vincennes 27-25, 25-23, and 25-17; Jackson CC 25-22, 25-14, and 25-16; and Edison 25-22, 25-19 and 25-5. Parkland (8-1) will face another difficult schedule this weekend whey they travel to the Kirkwood Ia. Invitational. PC will play #2 Cowley and Region 24 rival SW Illinois on Friday before tangling with #4 Des Moines and Iowa Lakes on Saturday. Both ranked foes will be out for revenge as PC defeated both teams at the Johnson County Invite earlier this season.

The Women's Soccer team fell to (1-1-1) on the early season falling to SW Illinois (1-0) by the score of 4-1. The Blue Storm took a 2-0 lead at the break and increased the lead to three before the Cobras Carly Cherry scored the lone goal at the 60 minute mark. SWIC added a goal in the final seconds of the match to win by the 4-1 margin. PC struggled on offense connecting on just one of five shots on goal while SWIC connected on four of ten. The Cobras will play their first home game of the season this Thursday when they host Kaskaskia College starting at 4:00.

Men's Soccer goes undefeated at Missouri Invite, Golf 3rd at Region 24 Prevue

Parkland Men's Soccer finished off a nearly perfect weekend by pounding the Lindenwood University JV 6-1 on Sunday afternoon. PC went 3-0 at the tournament outscoring their three opponents by the score of 15-1.

On Sunday, the Cobras got two goals from Alex Birnie, one on an assist from Matt Larison and the other on a penalty kick. Birnie, normally a goalkeeper, played in the field this week due to injuries and led the team in scoring with 4 goals and an assist. PC got single scores from Kyle Stach, TJ Keys, Aaron Vega, and Devin Munch. Ricardo Vega, Chris Faller, and Bruno Ferreira all had assists as the Cobras improved to (4-0-1 1-0) on the season. Tyler Kutz, who played all three games in net, allowed just one goal the entire weekend. Next up for the Green and Gold is a 5:00 home match today vs Illinois Wesleyan JV.

The Parkland Men's golf team got the Zach McNabney era underway with a 3rd place finish at the Region 24 Prevue hosted by Rend Lake CC at Franklin Country Club. The Cobras led the 36-hole event after the first 18 holes shooting a 291 giving them a 2 stroke lead over the host school. The second 18 weren't as kind as PC shot a 310 falling to 3rd in the 13 team tourney. Rend Lake (293-291 584) took home the title while John A Logan (295-297 592) finished 2nd ahead of Parkland (291-310 601).

Elijah Sentel (Rend Lake) was the medalist (72-69) winning on the second hold playoff over Matt Smith of Logan (70-71). Parkland was led by Michael Davan (70-78 148) and Trevor Wiesner (72-76 148). Other Parkland scores were: David Shelton (71-82 153), Bob Huey (78-78 156), Kolby Kabbes (78-78 156). Parkland players who participated as individuals were Michael Peters (79-76 155), Kevin Mast (77-78 155), and Jordan Christensen (85-73 158). PC is off until Sept. 14-15 when they travel to the John A Logan Invite.

The Parkland College Volleyball team had a highly successful weekend going (3-1) against four nationally-ranked foes. The #5 Cobras opened play on Friday sweeping #2 Cowley County 25-20, 25-16, and 25-14 behind 9 kills by Katie Knott and Sam Larson. Brittany Fallis added 18 digs and Kylie Cavanah had 39 assists in the win. PC followed that victory with a hard fought 25-14, 14-25, 25-22, 25-17 win over #4 Des Moines Area CC. Knott and Jaclyn Meado both had 9 kills with Knott adding 2 service aces and Meado 4 blocks.

On Saturday, the Cobras returned to action by defeating #25 Longview by the scores of 16-25, 25-23, 25-22, and 22-17. After losing the first game, PC rallied to win three close games behind Sam Larson (12 kills and 22 digs), Kylie Cavanah (47 assists and 3 blocks), and Lucy Coleman (10 kills and 3 blocks). Jaclyn Meado and Katie Knott each added 10 kills in the win. PC ran out of gas in the finale falling to 2007 NJCAA runner-up and #6 Johnson County 25-11, 25-14, and 25-11.

Angie Snider scored on an assist from Linda Hernandez with just under 10 minutes to go in the game to lead the Parkland Women' s Soccer team to a 1-0 win over St. Louis Meramec in the season opener for both teams. Libby Beck (3 saves) and Molly Sandgren (2 saves) combined in goal for the shutout. PC dominated the contest with 16 shots on goal to just 5 for the Magic but was turned away on several shots by outstanding play by the rival goalie. Next up for PC (1-0) is a game at Scott CC in Davenport, Iowa.

Battle for Bragging Rights ends in a draw

The Parkland College Men's Soccer team battled the University of Illinois Club Team last night in their annual grudge match for the two local soccer programs. This year the game was played at night at Centennial High School in front of a large crowd featuring many local high school athletes. Centennial's Corey Kallembach got the scoring started off of a feed from Matt Larison to give the Cobras a 1-0 lead. Minutes later, Central High School product Ricardo Vega broke through the Illinois backfield and scored to put PC ahead by two goals. Just before the half, Illinois's Ryan Summerville found himself alone at the tob of the box and hit a low shot into the corner of the net to cut the lead to 2-1 at the break. Early in the second half, Mark Zerlang closed the scoring with a break away goal for Illinois to tie the game at 2.

The tie leaves PC at (1-0-1 1-0) ahead of this weekends trip to St. Louis for the Missouri Invitational. The Cobras will play Forest Park on Thursday, Kansas City CC on Friday, and Lindenwood on Sunday.

*PARKLAND SOCCER OPENS WITH A WIN AGAINST LINCOLN COLLEGE*

Parkland Soccer opened the season is a big way taking down conference rival
Lincoln College 4-1. Parkland came out a bit shaky at first and turned over
the ball deep in their own end, giving up a break away goal in the first 5
minutes of the game. Once the Cobras settled down though they dominated
play throughout the midfield and attacking zone. Right beforfe the first
half ended Parkland was rewarded as Kyle Stach scored a hardworking goal off
a nice combination play with TJ Keys.

Early in the second half Bruno Ferreira from Fisher High School hit the
upper window on a beautiful feed from Leroy Kusina to give the Cobras the go
ahead goal. Late in the game Parkland scored two quick goals: Kusina from
Urbana High School, beat the keeper with a flicked ball off a long driven
pass from Trevor Kohlrus. Two minutes later Ricardo Vega, a Central High
School graduate, beat the wall with a free kick to close out the scoring.

The win puts Parkland at 1-0 (1-0 in the MAC Conference) on the season.
Next up for the Cobras is a inter-city matchup under the lights against the
University of Illinois Mens Club team on Monday, August 25th, 6:30pm at
Centennial High School.
