Service Learning Community Resources

Service-learning is a teaching strategy that combines course related service projects with guided reflection to 1) reinforce student learning of course material, 2) help meet community needs, and 3) foster civic responsibility and a sense of caring for others.

How Parkland College students can help you.

Each semester, a growing number of Parkland College students enroll in courses which combine service to the community with rigorous academic instruction.  In previous years, Parkland students have served the community in a variety of ways, from working with the residents of the Champaign County Nursing Home, to tutoring elementary school children, both in the classroom and at the new Garden Hills Elementary School "Homework Club."

We are continually seeking out new partnerships with members of the Parkland community and would welcome the opportunity to explore how Parkland students might help our community in new and exciting ways.
